Abstract: This document presents the design and implementation of a high availability cluster for the acquisition and processing systems of the Instituto Geofísico (IG), to guarantee the availability of the information that IG provides. First, concepts of high availability clusters and the components that form a cluster are reviewed, then three high availability open source technologies are compared and one of them is chosen to be used in the implementation of the cluster. Concepts of virtualization are also reviewed and three virtualization open source technologies are compared to select the one that will be used. Then an analysis of the acquisition and processing systems of the IG is performed, the main features of these systems are reviewed and the hardware requirements are defined to dimension the cluster nodes. The design and implementation of the high availability cluster is presented, and also the results of the tests performed, the conclusions and recommendations. Finally in the annexes is described the installation and configuration of the systems to which the cluster provides high availability.
