Abstract: This project aims the design, construction and energetic evaluation of a cooling chamber using Peltier cells (thermoelectric effect) for vaccine refrigeration. For the necessary parameters to design a refrigeration chamber that reaches the required temperature, a bibliographic study took place. Vaccines and their refrigeration requirement are studied. In addition, the heat that the chamber needs to withdraw was calculated. Furthermore, some designing strategies were given for the refrigeration system to perform efficiently. Once the chamber was designed, the Peltier cell was selected; this device was used to refrigerate the vaccines. Two cells need to be used to withdraw 20,5 (W), the total heat that the device must withdraw. Subsequently, the control system was linked up. It allowed the device to maintain constant the temperature automatically. The chamber was built with all the parameters that were calculated throughout the design. First, the chamber was built, then, the Peltier module. Both systems were attached and finally, the control system was linked up. As last step, the refrigeration chamber was energetically analyzed. Experimental values were registered and the results were calculated. The required temperature was reached 90 minutes after the device was turned on. The obtained COP was 0.35 that is between expected ranges. Finally, recommendations were given in order to improve the device.
