This Master's thesis intends to quantitatively determine the food complementarity, the evolution of the food pattern and the commercial flow of the agricultural sector between the European Union (EU) as well as with the rest world, at the same time seeks to analyze the challenges and strategies Based on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) to achieve food self-sufficiency. This process, which has taken place since the beginning of the formation of the European Community, has evolved according to the needs and the number of members that currently number 28 countries in Europe, while the process of leaving the UK takes place. The analyzes show the existence of food self-sufficiency at the level of the whole European Union, so also the analysis allows to observe in an individualized way how countries complement by means of imports the necessary resources to reach self-sufficiency. On the other hand, the commercial flow occurs between the north and south of Europe to supply products like fruits, vegetables, cereals and milk, mainly. This results in an exercise of planning and regulation of member countries through a macro policy that has favored agricultural development. In this sense, carrying out this research can serve as a basis for replicating similar approaches in other important blocks in the world, such as the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) and the member countries that make it up.es_ES
