The objective of the present work was to study the effect of temperature, pH and hydrogen peroxide in the degradation process of phenol with ultrasound. The sonication cycles in the degradation of this pollutant were also evaluated, under the best operation conditions previously determined. Finally, a system for the treatment of effluents contaminated with phenol, at pilot scale, was designed. Temperatures of 20, 40 and 60 °C were tested, 20 °C was selected as the best temperature condition. The pH of the solution was evaluated in values of 2, 4 and 6; it was determined that with a pH of 2 allowed to reach the best results. Regarding the addition of hydrogen peroxide with a concentration of 10 mM, under the best conditions of temperature and pH favored the degradation. The percentage of degradation of phenol was higher when the system was operated with a cycle of 1.0; values of 49.02 % and 40.56 % were obtained with and without the addition of hydrogen peroxide, respectively. The cost of a system for the treatment with ultrasound of effluent contaminated with phenol would be 33.78 USD/m3es_ES
