The research defined the kinetic constants (n: characterization constant of the support medium and k: substrate removal constant) of an experimental model of aerobic biofilter, proposed in the Eckenfelder equation for the treatment of domestic wastewater. For this purpose, the physical, chemical and bacteriological characteristics of domestic wastewater (housing set located in the city of Quito) were initially evaluated. The experimental model functioned seriously during the investigation and consisted of three levels; in which the following components were sequentially placed: a tributary dosing vessel, followed by the biofilter formed by a corrugated PVC pipe with a diameter of 12 mm and 7 m in length, and finally a vessel that made secondary settler. During the experimental phase different superficial hydraulic loads of 60, 90 and 120 m² / m³.d were applied to the biofilter and the treated effluent was later collected in the secondary sedimentation. The experimental model was tested for hydraulic loads (q) of: 60, 90 and 120 m³ / m².d; Determining for each (q) an indirectly stabilized soluble DBO₅; for this purpose the DQO stabilized in three lengths of the model (3, 5 and 7 m). Considering the equation of Eckenfelder (logSa/Se = kSD/qⁿ) and the stabilized soluble DBO₅, the kinetic constants of the experimental model (n = 0.574 and k = 0.0030 m⁻⁰˒⁵⁷⁴.d⁻⁰˒⁵⁷⁴) were determined. The control parameters during the experimental phase were: DQO, DBO₅, ST, SST and SDT; which had removal values between 65 and 94%. In order to treat a sanitary flow of a population of 1,000 hab. it is necessary to implement 12 treatment modules (each module will be made up of 639 units of PVC pipes diameter 12 mm and length 7m).es_ES
