Abstract

The nonlinear analysis of a structure is little diffused as a source of design, but it is important to have some knowledge of it, this project aims to be an introduction to the wide world of nonlinearity on frame structures. This project shows a procedure to determine the capacity curve, creating routines and subroutines using Matlab, using different ways of element stiffness calculation, based on the gross inertia of the section, and the moment curvature relationship. Also, here is presented the procedure of modeling in the program SAP2000, to obtain the moment curvature relationship of a section, and the capacity curve of an element; and to have a comparison between the results obtained with the SAP2000 program and the routines proposed in Matlab.
