Análisis del impacto del tamaño de las ciudades en el bienestar subjetivo de los ecuatorianos

Abstract

The subjective well-being of people generally has been associated with the level of income; however, there are other aspects that should be considered such as the size of cities. The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between the size of cities and the well-being of people for the Ecuadorian case at the cantonal level during the period 2007 – 2015. A multiple-choice model Gologit is employed and the results show that for the Ecuadorian population the larger the city, the lower the probability that the people express high subjective well-being. In addition the gross value added as a proxy for personal income, shows that the impact of this variable on welfare presents an inverted U trend.
