Abstract: In labor market, the discrimination is based on stereotypes and prejudices of employers against minorities or women, generating that individuals with similar skills, but belonging to different groups, cannot have an equivalent labor development. This situation has motivated the existence of the policies of affirmative action; the same propose that all the individuals reach the fair equality of opportunities. This research aims to analyze the existence of gender and ethnic wage discrimination and the effect of affirmative actions, addressing the case of the Ecuadorian labor market. For this, a Probit model and an income equation were estimated by Ordinary Least Squares from the data obtained from the National Employment, Unemployment and Underemployment Survey (ENEMDU) 2008 - 2016. The results evidence that, in the period of time studied, the existence of wage discrimination remains and the application of affirmative actions cannot show the expected effect.
