Abstract: In the present work an analysis was performed of the data obtained from tests developed in Petroamazonas EP Laboratories with chemical additives that seek to solve the problems associated with heavy crude oil transportation from the East of Ecuador through pipelines. Also a description was made of each of the existing methods that seek to reduce the viscosity of crude oil, as well as methods that reduce the friction that occurs between the fluid ande the internal Wall of the pipe due to the high viscosities that heavy oil can present due to phenomena such as the precipitation and deposition of asphaltenes, placing more emphasis on the methods that exist today; pour point depressants and drag reducing additives, which were studied in detail in order to describe the most important parameters in terms of their application. It was posible to observe that the two alternatives manage to reduce the viscosity of crude in different proportions, however, in addition to the performance, it is necesary to take into account the dosage of these products, in this way it was posible to identify what would be the best alternative to counteract the associated problems to the tranportation of heavy crude by pipelines.
