Abstract: The present project compares the operation of WSN devices from different manufacturers, this is done through the open source software Castalia and the modules that make it up. First, it is described the structure of a WSN, as well as its components and the functions that it executes in the network. Likewise, it details the technologies used in wireless sensor networks, such as: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and ZigBee, the latter being the technology of greatest interest in this work. In addition, different scenarios of wireless sensor networks are presented, for their subsequent simulation, which vary by their physical distribution of nodes and their mobility. Presenting two main scenarios, the first with linear distribution of nodes, and the second with uniform distribution of nodes. Additionally, each scenario presents characteristics of no mobility and mobility in its nodes. As for the simulations in Castalia, it adapts different motes developed by several manufacturers such as: Libelium and Iridium, as well as the existing CC2420 speck in Castalia (developed by Texas Instruments). With the obtained results, the behavior of the motes is analyzed and which presents a better performance in the different scenarios.
