Abstract: Distribution companies must guarantee the supply of electricity to all customers in their concession area, so it is necessary to know not only how much energy they need, but also at what time? And where will they need it? Within this context, the spatial load forecasting is the key to answering these questions. The present work uses data mining, to develop a spatial forecast, which allows to visualize by heat maps, the energy demand in each of the smallareas that divide the territory. To achieve this, a mixture of methods, techniques and criteria is proposed, which are grouped into two stages. The first one, which determines the historical electricity demand of the concession area through billing records and geo-referenced location of the clients. And a second stage, which groups the historical demand curves (obtained in the first), through a modification of the k-means clustering algorithm. The results obtained (by the methodological proposal of this work) are compared with the results of a multiple regression forecast (typical used by the distributors of Ecuador), in order to demonstrate the potential and advantages of the new methodology
