Abstract: The adsorption of the pollutants caffeine and triclosan by modified lignocellulosic wastes with titanium dioxide nanoparticles from aqueous synthetic solutions was studied. Three diferent lignocellulosic wastes were used: bamboo, laurel and moringa, each one in three particle size: 45, 75 and 149 m. The nanoparticles impregnation was achieved based on the wet impregnation technique. The chemical composition of the lignocellulosic wastes was determined using the base line of ASTM standards, meanwhile the physicochemical properties of modified materials were investigated by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The adsorption was carried out in batch systems as a function of adsorbent concentration, contact time, nanoparticles content and light influence. Finally, the isotherm models of Langmuir and Freundlich were obtained. The impregnation was confirmed by SEM and FTIR. The experimental data was used to get the adsorption isotherm models of Langmuir and Freundlich, caffeine adsorption was well fitted to the Langmuir and Freundlich models; however, triclosan adsorption was well fitted to the Freundlich model. The maximun adsorption capacity of caffeine was 37,09 mg.g-1 and 55,28 mg.g-1 for triclosan, both of them were obtained using modified material of laurel with a particle size of 45 m.
