Abstract: En este proyecto se tiene como objetivo aprovechar el gas asociado a la producción de petróleo de un pozo para que sirva como combustible en los grupos electrógenos que proveen de electricidad a los equipos de la misma estación. Con este objetivo se diseñó y construyó un módulo que posibilitó la combinación y posterior combustión de dos combustibles: diesel y gas. Además, se diseñó e implementó un control tanto manual como automático del sistema de mezcla del gas y diesel que son inyectados como combustible a un motor diesel, sin necesidad de hacer paros forzosos y modificaciones irreversibles al sistema original. Esto posibilitará generar energía eléctrica para cubrir una demanda de aproximadamente 2,7 MW, para los próximos años de explotación del campo donde se construyó este sistema prototipo. Pruebas realizadas demostraron que por la calidad del gas producido en el pozo, sin realizar un buen tratamiento, pudo aprovecharse para producir hasta un 25% del calor útil necesario para generar 3,77 MW continuos de potencia eléctrica. Esta cifra representa un ahorro de 1205 galones de combustible líquido (Diesel), por día. Cantidad que hace posible justificar la inversión inicial que es relativamente alta, en un plazo de 5 años, con una tasa interna de retorno del 92 %.
