PROCESAMIENTO DE LA SEÑAL
We consider the problem of minimizing rank of a matrix under linear and nonlinear matrix inequality constraints. This problem arises in diverse applications such as estimation, control and signal processing and it is known to be computationally NP-hard even when constraints are linear .In this paper, we first formulize the RMP as an optimization
problem with linear objective and simple nonlinear semialgebraic constraints. We then proceed to solve the problem with augmented Lagrangian method known in nonlinear optimization. Despite of other heuristic and
approximate methods in the subject, this method guarantees to find the global optimum in the sense that it does not depends on
the choice of initial point for convergence. Several numerical examples demonstrate the effectiveness of the considered algorithm.

Pre-Whitened Dithered Signed-Error Constant Modulus Algorithm for Efficient Blind Channel Equalization
Butt, Naveed R.

ALGORITMOS
CANALES DE COMUNICACIÓN
Blind channel equalization has gained great
importance in the world of communications. Among a large number of available blind equalization algorithms, the CMA (Constant Modulus Algorithm) enjoys widespread popularity because of its LMS-like complexity and robustness. Two important improvements on the CMA performance are the Dithered Signed-Error CMA (DSE-CMA) and the Pre-
Whitened CMA (PW-CMA). The DSE-CMA is an approach to reduce the computational complexity of the CMA while retaining its robustness and the PW-CMA aims at improving
the convergence rate of the CMA in case of channels exhibiting large frequency response deviations. In this paper we review the two approaches and propose a new scheme combining the virtues of the two. The combined scheme is computationally simpler than the PW-CMA and provides better convergence than the DSE-CMA. It is particularly suited for the situations where ill-convergence needs to be treated with minimum additional complexity and without loss of robustness.

INTELIGENCIA ARTIFICIAL
SISTEMAS DE CONTROL
This paper presents a framework for the
realization of intelligent embedded systems for control applications. Requirements on system intelligence are translated into requirements on the system hardware and
software. The hardware and software components of the design and their impact on system performance are discussed. Software and hardware architectures are presented that enable the realization of these requirements. Recent trends in the hardware-software co-design and hardware reconfigur-ation are utilized to design systems that are fault-tolerant and have higher reliability under all operating conditions. The design approach is validated by means of a case study.

SISTEMAS DE CONTROL NO LINEAL
The main objective of our research is to
develop several unscented transform techniques (UTT) to estimate the state of the nonlinear processes such as an improvement of an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) approach. The Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) has become a standard nonlinear estimation technique in
control systems and parameter estimation for nonlinear system identification. The Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) developed in this paper is a superior alternative to the Exdended Kalman Filter for the most of estimation and control applications. We will try to figure out in this paper that the UKF algorithm performs slightly superior compared to EKF algorithm based on the state estimation of the nonlinear vinyl acetate reactor developed well in [1]. These results are encouraging for us and we want to explore the possibility of extension of its applicability to the other possible applications such as state and parameter estimation, neural network identification, and Fault Detection, Diagnosis and Isolation (FDDI) of the nonlinear control systems.

Fractional Hold Circuits for the Design of Positive

FUNCIONES DE TRANSFERENCIA
The appropriate use of fractional order holds
( b-FROH) of correcting gains b2 [-1,1] as an alternative to the classical zero and first order -holds (respectively, ZOH, FOH) is discussed related to the positive realness
of the associate discrete transfer functions obtained from a given continuous transfer function. It is proved that the minimum direct input-output gain (i.e. the quotient of the leading coefficients of the numerator and denominator of the transfer function) needed for discrete positive realness may be reduced by the choice of b compared to that
required for discretization via a ZOH.

An Adaptive Root-Solving Controller for Tracking of Nonlinear Dynamic Plants
Butt, Naveed R.

Khan, Tahir
SISTEMAS DE CONTROL NO LINEAL
Adaptive tracking of nonlinear dynamic plants iscurrently an important area of research. The main difficulty being felt by the research community is the lack of a general modelling framework that can facilitate synthesis of
a simplistic control law, while being capable of providing accurate approximation of nonlinear systems. In this study a novel technique based on the control-oriented U-model is proposed for the adaptive tracking of a wide range of stable nonlinear dynamic plants using only past data. The basic
scheme is based on the robust internal model control (IMC) structure. An adaptive version of the U-model is introduced for the modelling of the plant and a simplistic control law based on polynomial root-solving is synthesized. The proposed scheme has a more general appeal than other adaptive
schemes based on models such as the polynomial NARMAX (Nonlinear Autoregressive Moving Average with Exogenous inputs) model. Additionally, the control law is much simpler
in nature. The effectiveness of the proposed adaptive scheme is demonstrated through application to the real-time control of a single-link robotic arm manipulator and simulations for different nonlinear plants.

REDES NEURALES
In this paper, a practically usable dual-mode control micro-system based on CPLD and reconfigurable FPGA is described. FPGA can be dynamically reconfigured under the control of CPLD to implement two models, Backpropagation neural network model and its training model, both of which are respectively directed to two control modes for industrial produce. One mode is neural network performed automatic control, the other one as human-interfered traditional control. That is, only one single FPGA is reconfigured with multifunction. This technique can be widely applied into other control fields such as the adaptive control in different environments, space-ship control, measuring control in rough situation, and even production control.

Adaptive Control using Multiple Models Switching
Giovanini, M.
Benosman, M.

CONTROL ADAPTIVO
The purpose of this paper is to marry the
two concepts of multiple model adaptive control and safe adaptive control. In its simplest form, multiple model adaptive control involves a supervisory switching among one of a finite number of controllers as more is learnt about the plant, until one of the controllers is finally selected and remains unchanged. Safe adapative control is concerned with ensuring that when the controller is changed the closed-loop is ever unstable. This paper introduces a receding horizon multiple model, switching and tuning control scheme based on an on-line redesign of the controller.. This control scheme has a natural two-stage adaptive control algorithm: identification of the closest model and design of the control law. The computational
complexity aspects of this approach to adaptive control are discussed briefly. A nonlinear system is used to illustrate the ideas.

This paper explores the use of a multivariate
statistics approach to monitor and diagnose the performance of a steam heated drying process. The results presented in this
paper are a first stage investigation into the capabilities and limitations of these methods when applied to this particular process. The results show that, despite the non-linear behaviour of the drier process, the model predictions correspond well with the process measurements. The results also indicate ability to detect process failures, however, accurate diagnosis of the failures remains a subject for future studies.

Application of a Discontinuous Controller with Chattering Attenuation

ROBOTS MÓVILES
SISTEMAS DE CONTROL
We developed a discontinuous controller to stabilize the movement of a unicycle mobile robot around a desired trajectory via backstepping methodology. The main contribution of the paper is that chattering signal, produced by the imprecision of the discontinuous terms, vanished thanks to an adaptive gain that reduces the chattering level once the position errors were zero. A stability analysis of the closedloop dynamic system in question was performed within the
framework of Lyapunov functions. Performance issues related to the discontinuous controllers are illustrated in numerical
simulations applied to a unicycle mobile robot.

Applications of Embedded Controllers in Speed and Position Controls
Choi, Chiu H.
MICROCONTROLADORES
CONTROL DE LA VELOCIDAD
This tutorial paper presents the experimental results of solving speed and position control problems by using embedded controllers. The embedded controllers used proportional, integral, and derivative controls. A feature of these controllers is that the sample time is not explicitly included in the integral and derivative control equations. This feature was experimentally tested. In the testing of the integral control with such feature, the controller was applied to a speed regulation problem under the condition of rapidly changing load. In the testing of the derivative control with the same feature, the controller was applied to a ringing removal problem. The results were that these controllers performed as expected. Other experiments of position controls and their results were also presented. All the embedded controllers were implemented in a member of
Freescale Semiconductor’s MC68HC12 microcontroller family.

Optimal Approach for Enhancement of Large and Small Scale Near-Infrared and Infrared Imaging
Zhengmao, Ye

SISTEMAS DE CREACIÓN DE IMÁGENES
In a broad area of industry such as remote
sensing and medical diagnosing, imaging enhancement technology takes a leading role, where energy distribution of the light source depends not only on image coordinate but also
on wavelength. Both infrared (IR) and near-infrared (NIR) imaging techniques have a variety of applications in these fields. For instance, satellite images are taken via IR or NIR spectrometer and laser Doppler medical scanning is collaborated with NIR spectrometer. Matrix functions of any
image correspond to brightness or energy at each image pixel. The actual decision making must rely on detailed investigation of images being obtained. Therefore, image processing should be taken into account so as to enhance the results from real world. Segmentation is an image analysis approach to clarify
feature ambiguity and information noise, which divides an image into separate parts that correlate with the objects or areas of the particular object involved. This procedure can be conducted by clustering, which is a process of partitioning a set
of pattern vectors into subsets. Being a simple unsupervised learning algorithm, K-means clustering algorithm has the
potential to both simplify the computation and accelerate the convergence. In most cases optimization is closely related to clustering, which gives rise to the best way of problem solving. In this article, optimal approach is proposed to be implemented along with image segmentation. This methodology is to enhance both large scale and small scale IR and NIR image processing.

RECONOCIMIENTO DEL HABLA
An evaluation of the feature set of the vector difference(VD) based on fractional cosine and sine transform focusing on the high-order fractional domains for text-independent speaker recognition is elucidated in this paper. The experiments have been done following the principles
varying the number of the vector dimension and the power of the output parameters of fractional cosine and sine transform separately. The recognition results show that when the order of primary fractional domain is fixed to be 1 and the one of secondary fractional domain is 0.98, the correct recognition rate of the VD feature matches the one of the previous MFCC feature.

CONTROLADORES DIFUSOS
A soft-sensor for on-line estimation of ammonia degradation (α) and nitrite accumulation (β) is proposed in this paper. The soft-sensor has showed a good behavior in the following of trends and has got final values very close to the experimental analysis. Thought this soft-sensor was not conceived for replacing the laboratory analysis, gives α and β estimations for all the instants in between the laboratory sample taking. The data resulting from the laboratory analysis is used to update the model parameters on which the soft-sensor is based on. Furthermore, the model is used to feed an on-line optimization system to look for the pH and O2 set-points whose gives maximum ammonia degradation (α) and nitrite accumulation (β). This optimization system is executed every time that the model parameters are updated.

In this work, we present the implementation of a planar temperature grid plant. This plant emulates the working of a control system that is designed to maintain a
constant temperature over a surface. The behavior of the implemented plant presents characteristics difficult to describe in mathematical terms like disturbances,
interferences, deviations, and temperature gradients. We describe the functional characteristics of the system and its
application in the study of distributed control systems in an educational environment. To test the working of the plant
we present the obtained results with two resource allocation strategies such as control algorithms.

An efficient optimization algorithm based on
reduced sequential quadratic programming (rSQP) and automatic differentiation (AD) is presented in this paper. With the characteristics of sparseness, relatively low degrees of freedom and equality constraints utilized, the nonlinear programming problem was solved by improved rSQP solver. In the solving process, AD technology was used to obtain accurate gradient information. The numerical results show that the combined algorithm, which is suitable for large-scale process optimization problems, can calculate more efficiently than rSQP itself.

REDES DE TRANSMISIÓN DE ENERGÍA ELÉCTRICA
This paper deals with the steady state analysis of unified power quality conditioner (UPQC). The UPQC, a combination of shunt and series active power filter (APF), is one of the best solutions towards the mitigation of voltage sags and swells problems on distribution network. The analysis is based on active and reactive power flow through the shunt and series APF, wherein series APF can absorb or deliver the active power whereas the reactive power requirement is totally handle by shunt APF alone during all conditions. This analysis is very useful for selection of kVA ratings for both shunt and series APF.
The MATLAB / SIMULINK results are provided in order to verify the analysis.

COMPRESIÓN DE IMÁGENES
As for a kind of medical images with clear
texture feature, a new lossless compressive method is presented in this paper. With two main steps, the method firstly sets up the predictive model of the current pixel with its surrounding texture features, including its four color change gradients; and then measures the similarity of all pixels within the image with their predictive models so that the redundancy brought about by the similarity is removed and a higher compression ratio is obtained. The following simulation results show that the new method is much more efficient than JPEG-LS algorithm in the compression of such kinds of medical images.

PROCESAMIENTO DE IMÁGENES
Registration is a fundamental stage in the 3D reconstruction process, which is used to match two or more images that can be taken in different moments, from different sensors, or from different viewpoints. Genetic algorithms have been applied to the registration of images, because of their ability to solve problems of optimization. In this paper, a
procedure is presented to solve the registration problem of multiple view range images using evolutionary algorithms.
This procedure is focused, on the problem of obtaining the best correspondence between points through a robust method of search on images that are partially overlapped. This
correspondence set will allow us to calculate a rigid transformation that registers the images accurately.

Sliding mode control with linear matrix inequalities using only output
Salamanca, Juan Mauricio
Rosero García, Esteban Emilio
ANALISIS DE SISTEMAS DE CONTROL
This paper presents a sliding mode control using only output information. The robustness conditions come from a linear matrix inequality (LMI). This LMI permits to use output feedback to stabilize the system with matched and unmatched disturbances and uncertainties. The controller synthetized consists of two components. One component of linear output feedback regulates the system and rejects the unmatched disturbance. Other components of nonlinear output function provide robustness to the overall system. Robustness conditions are given. Simulations results using Simulink Matlab to simulate several nonlinear systems are presented.

This paper describes the architecture of Retriever, an innovative system for power system control centers, which provides advanced visualization and study mode features. Visual monitoring has many advantages over traditional non-graphic
supervision, allowing the operator to process large amounts of information and capture the aspects relevant to prevent insecure power system states in a very efficient manner. Real-time power flow and study mode simulations allow the discovery of potential
problems in the system and points out towards prompt control actions by the operator. Theses visualization and analysis tools
have been integrated to provide a powerful architecture for real-time power system monitoring, and are operative in large control centers with tenths of thousands of nodes.

Adaptive Fuzzy Decentralized Control of Robot Manipulators

MANIPULADORES
SISTEMAS DE CONTROL
In this paper an adaptive fuzzy decentralized
control algorithm for trajectory tracking of robot manipulators is developed. The proposed decentralized control algorithm allows the overall closed-loop system to be stabilized while making the tracking error to be uniformly ultimately bounded (UUB), without having any prior knowledge of the robot manipulator dynamics. The interconnections in the dynamic equations of each subsystem are considered with unknown nonlinear bounds. The adaptive fuzzy neural networks (AFNNs) are proposed to model the unknown nonlinear dynamics of the robots and the interconnection terms. Using Lyapunov method, the stability of the overall system is investigated.

SISTEMAS DE CONTROL
Using the underlying idea of the current-mode control, a new dynamical, sliding-mode control for the boost dc-dc converter is proposed. Such controller is easy to design, robust under load and input voltage variations, exhibits fast response, does not depend on the load (although a knowledge of the load range is necessary to tune the controller), requires only voltage measurements, and can be easily implemented using standard electronic components.

SISTEMAS DE CONTROL
In this paper, which consists of two parts, a new two-level computational algorithm is used for nonlinear optimal control of large-scale systems. The two-level optimizer uses a new coordination strategy which is based on the gradient of interaction errors instead of the gradient of overall performance function. The advantages of the new method can be categorized into two parts: First, the new formulation is applicable to a large class of problems whilst the classical model
coordination method is not. Second, it extremely reduces the number of iterations required for obtaining the overall optimal
solution. Although the computational burden of the algorithm in the first level increases slightly, it is shown that there is a
great saving in computation time of the overall problem. To demonstrate the significance of the theoretical developments
and the computational requirements for new algorithm, a numerical example is presented.

In this paper, the nonlinear mathematical model with five DOFs (degrees-of-freedom) of a magnetic levitation system is developed and analyzed. Then a second order sliding

compensate the unknown increments on the load. Simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

Synthesis of H PID controllers

SISTEMAS DE CONTROL PID
This paper considers the problem of synthesizing proportional-integral-derivative (PIC) controllers for which the closed-loop system is internally stable and the H norm of a related transfer function is less than a prescribed level for a given single-input single output plant. In our approach, in this paper, this problem is formulated by virtue of the bounded real lemma, as a feasibility problem involving a bilinear matrix inequality (BMI) and solved by means of a sequence of easier auxiliary quadratic optimization problem. The optimal controller is determined through a line search on the non negative real axis.

ROBÓTICA
In this paper a decentralized control scheme for multiple cooperative manipulators is developed to achieve the desired performance in motion and force tracking, in the presence of uncertainties in dynamic equations of the robots. To eliminate the effects of uncertainties in the closed-loop performance, a new adaptive control algorithm is proposed.
Based on the Lyapunov stability method, it is proved that all the error signals in the closed-loop system which is compose of
a robot, an observer and a controller asymptotically converge to zero. Also to avoid the difficulties of using velocity sensors within the cooperative system, an output feedback control scheme with a linear observer is used.

A New Model For Induction Motor With Induced Saliencies

MOTORES DE INDUCCIÓN
This paper develops a formal and general model for an induction motor with periodic variations of the rotor slot; this induction motor with induced saliencies is commonly used in sensorless control applications. In order to obtain the model, first the analysis of the stator and rotor inductances modified
by induced saliencies is carried out; second, the electromagnetic and electomechanical equations in ABC frame are developed and third, the model is represented in the natural orthogonal a-b frames. The obtained model is suitable for control design and compatible with the classical ab model for induction motors without saliencies.

OPTIMIZACIÓN
In this part, similar to Part I of this paper, a new two-level method for nonlinear optimal control of large scale systems is introduced. This approach is based on Interaction Balance Principle for coordination of large-scale systems. In the
first level, the optimization problems are solved for nonlinear dynamics using a gradient method, and in the second level, the
coordination is done using the gradient of errors to improve the convergence rate in compare to the classical Goal Coordination
method and obtain the overall optimal solution. The efficacy and advantages of the new approach is shown in an application example.

Control Applications Using Computational Intelligence Methodologies

CONTROL INTELIGENTE
The ambiguity, robustness and performance of systems becomes increasingly evident as the complexity and size increase in industrial processes. Under these circumstances, conventional control techniques such as PID control, nonlinear feedback control, LQG control and H∞ control have several disadvantages because they are hard or inflexible and cannot handle qualitative knowledge. This may explain the dominant role of emerging “intelligent control, using soft computing” as an interesting alternative. This means that increasing complexity requires an increase in intelligence in order to provide robustness and adaptability. Intelligent techniques such as fuzzy systems (FS), neural networks (NN) and genetic algorithms (GA) can be combined using the resources of such techniques complementary. This paper is a report of a research work in intelligent control of the GISIA group (Grupo de Investigación en Sistemas Inteligentes y Aplicaciones) at Escuela Politécnica Nacional.

CONTROL DE LA VELOCIDAD
GENERADORES EÓLICOS
The well–known principle of the direct torque
control applied mainly to squirrel–cage induction motor drives can be generalized and applied to other machines, quantities,
converters and systems. These are: other AC machines (double–fed induction and permanent magnet synchronous machine), active and reactive power, direct power control of
the line side converter, direct controls of both of the converters
in a DC link inverter. These new fields are investigated in this paper generally and their application to the components of a
wind generator practically. The limits of the direct torque control in salient–pole permanent magnet synchronous generator
are given. A solution is given for the stability problem of the
double–fed induction generator. The systems are investigated by simulation, the results show the excellent performance of the proposed controls.

One of the main objectives of our research
is to build several ARMA linear models and nonlinear neuro models for DAT systems such as developed in [3], [4]. Based on these models we have been interested to build some feedback control strategies for these systems
[3]-[5]. Due to the highly complexity of the HVAC systems the requirements for reliability, availability, and security grow significantly and consequently investigations in this field become necessary. The objective of our paper is to develop some strategies for the fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) of the HVAC systems based on frequency and spectral analysis of the system response. The main interest is focused on dealing with the unanticipated valves actuators failures in the most general formulation based on the frequency analysis of the system response. In our study we consider that the increasing of the backlash opening in the valve actuators could create serious problems by degrading drastically the HVAC system performance.
Based on the spectrum analysis we are capable to gather the most significant patterns that characterize well each fault mode detected, and finally a systematic procedure and technique for proper fault accommodation under the unanticipated failures will be developed. As tools we use MATLAB with SIMULINK toolboxes from control systems, system identification and signal processing.

SIMULACIÓN POR COMPUTADOR
This document describes a general structure for the implementation of virtual tools for remote calculation through Internet. Two virtual tools for mathematical analysis
(Analys) and simulation of dynamic systems (SimWeb), supported by the Matlab c, are described. These virtual tools, permit access to the Matlab from multiple work stations, without distance, power computer restrictions or user’s knowledge in Matlab language; in a similar way, they allow the simulations of block diagrams through a friendly user interface. The remote calculation tools have low cost of implementation, allowing to obtain a system of high calculation power and
accessible for a great number of users. The tools are oriented to automatic control systems analysis and simulation, but their use is expandable to other fields of engineering and basic sciences.

Design of Control System for Forced Dynamics Control of an Electric Drive Employing Linear Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

CONTROL DE LA VELOCIDAD
SISTEMAS DE CONTROL
The paper presents forced dynamics control of an electric drive with linear permanent magnet synchronous motor. This control method offers an accurate realisation of a dynamic speed response, which can be selected for given application by the user. In addition to this, the angle between stator current vector and moving part flux vector are maintained mutually perpendicular as it is in conventional vector control. To achieve prescribed speed response derived control law requires an external force information, which is obtained from the set of observers. The first set of observers is based on sliding-mode, while the second observer is classical full-state observer and exploits information of the position sensor. Simulations of the overall control system together with preliminary experimental results for the drive with rotational synchronous motor predict intended performance of the drive.

eliminated. A prototype is also presented; it will support experimental requirements for curses on automatic control and physical experimentation principles as well as models
related with electrostatics and magnetodynamics.

Modeling and Simulation of a Vector-Controlled Synchronous Machine in Motoring and Generating Mode
Losic, Novica A.
MOTORES SINCRÓNICOS
SISTEMAS DE CONTROL
A vector-controlled permanent-magnet (PM) synchronous machines has been modeled and simulated in both the monitoring and generating mode of operation. The control provides for the maximized torque and, therefore, maximum efficiency during motoring, and for a controlled power, tight voltaje regulation in the presence of load changes, and minimum bus voltaje ripple at the output of ac-dc converter during generation. A three phase-locked loop is used to provide the unity vector information in both the sensor-based and sensorless scheme. The results of the simulation are presented, including modeling details and simulation parameters.

LEVITACIÓN MAGNÉTICA
This paper presents a mathematical model and the performance evaluation of a kind of electromagnetic levitation/suspension system, where the static and dynamic magnetic fields are linked through conductor bodies. The
complex and nonlinear dynamic of the system, allows it to illustrate in a practical form, different aspects of automatic control like mathematical modelling, nonlinear analysis,
simulating, controllers design, evaluation and validation of linear and nonlinear controllers. Also, the system allows to illustrate the basic principles of operation of the big developments in power applications, force generation and energy conversion. The performance evaluation is started from a model obtained by direct evaluation of mechanical forces of electromagnetic origin and virtual work method.
