We simulated extensive air showers initiated by a gamma and proton of 10 TeV that hit the atmosphere vertically, generating a difference of 20 muons to 1 between the proton initiated shower and gamma initiated shower, respectively. We present the simulation of a water Cherenkov detector as particle tracer, which will make it possible to differentiate between a proton initiated shower and gamma initiated shower. We did the histogram of the Cherenkov photons detected by the photomultiplier tubes in the detectors, and we found the difference of the rise times for the muon, gamma, and electron are 9±0,1 [ns], 7,5±0,1 [ns] y 7,3±0,1 [ns], respectively. Finally, we computed the effective area or the detector’s response in function of the primary gamma energy that hit the atmosphere vertically. We determined the parameters of the gaussian fit for the curve of the effective area for energy values between [200,1100] GeV.es_ES
