| es_ES |
dc.description.abstract | Deficiencies in sanitation coverage in rural Ecuador open up possibilities for domestic wastewater treatment with non-conventional and economic systems such as vermifiltration. The experimental model contemplated 3 similar vermifilters, operating at a rate of 2.5 m3 / m2d, but with different irrigation intervals: 24h / d, 8h / d and 4h / d. The results showed that the vermifiters R1-24h, R2-8h and R3-4h reached elimination efficiencies in COD of 35, 74 and 61%, in nitrogen of 3.8, 44.4 and 49.8% and in phosphorus of 8.4, 27.2 and 22.0%, respectively. R2-8h and R3-4h were more efficient in control of clogging with cumulative load loss of -0.8 and +2.8 cm, respectively. Finally, the microbial activity demonstrates that R3-4h allows maintaining the nitrification-denitrification intercalated conditions (-64.4 to +52.1 mV), a condition reflected in the nitrogen elimination efficiencies in this vermifilter with 49.8%. The highest amount of microbial biomass was 13.2 g SV / m2, in the active layer in R2-8h as well as the best average weight in earthworm (0.3045 g / earthworm). Therefore, vermifilter R2-8h had better efficiency values, greater number of adult worms (10), biomass (13.2 mg SV / m2) and lower obstruction (-0.8 cm) | es_ES |
