Abstract: Mitigation of secondary arc current, is one of the parameters of great incidence to obtaining a successful monopolar recloser operation in single and double EHV lines, which at the end reduce the outage time of the transmission systems. This research explores the main technologies and the methodology to mitigate the secondary arc current. As part of the research, the mathematical formulation to characterize the capacitive couplings and their neutralization through parallel inductive compensation and reactors (inductors) in the neutral of banks of three-phase inductors is presented. The future interconnection double circuit Ecuador - Peru 500 kV has been selected as application example. For this case study, the methodology will be applied in different critical scenarios with different alternatives of inductive compensation. The comparison of both, the results of the mathematical formulation developed in Matlab and the results of the transient simulation in ATP will be also made. This study will be complemented with an analysis of sensitivities in the ATP software, a transient stability analysis in the Power Factory software and finally an analysis on the incidence of the inductive compensation, in electrical protections, mainly in the differential protection.
