Resumen: The purpose of this document is to perform the electric design of Zumbahua Substation, located in Pujilí and part of ELEPCO S.A. electrical system; the objective of the substation is to provide a better service to customers in the surrounding areas and improve the reliability of the system. ELEPCO S.A electrical system situation and particularly Zumbahua distribution system is evaluated to know the current technical problems. The dimensioning of the power transformer and the approximate location of the substation is done using the Micro-Area methodology and projecting the demand considering the type of use that the land has. The type of substation is analyzed and the one-line diagram is defined, considering the policies of the utility and technical factors. The insulation coordination and the calculation of the minimum safety distances is done using the methodology of IEC 60071. DigSilent program allowed the implementation of the new substation in the current system and determination of the voltages and currents in normal and in fault conditions, to define the main characteristics of main equipment. Finally, IEEE Std. 80 standard was used to design the grounding grid, and the EGM method described in the IEEE Std. 988 standard was used to define the substation shielding system.
