Abstract: This study was aimed at obtaining and characterizing a wood plastic profile by extrusion, using a Cincinnati Milacron TC35 profile extruder. For its development, wood plastic composites were previously produced in a polypropylene (PP) matrix, as reinforced was used nanoclay (NA) in 0,5; 1; 1,5 wt%, and bamboo flour (BB) in 30 wt% with particle sizes of 250 µm and 595 µm. Maleated polypropylene (MAPP) was used as a compatibilizer in 1,5 and 3 wt%. The composites were subjected to tensile, flexural, impact and density tests. The results were analyzed and showed that, the addition of bamboo with MAPP enhances flexural and tensile properties in comparison to the neat material. The addition of nanoclay showed an inverse trend attributed to the lack of compatibility between the phases and the possible formation of agglomerates that produce stress concentrators. After data analysis, it was concluded that the composites obtained with 0,5; 0 wt % of nanoclays and 3 wt % of MAPP show the most favorable results. To determine the best composition to use, the thermal characterization of both composites was carried out. Differential scanning calorimetry, thermomechanical and thermogravimetric analyses were used. Based on results, the composition with 30BB+0NA+3MAPP+PP was used as a raw material in the manufacture of the wood plastic profile, which exhibited slightly greater thermal stability and an increase in the crystallinity of the composite. This profile was subjected to bending and physical tests of moisture content, moisture absorption, density, ignition speed and hardness. The profile showed a moisture content of 0, 4 %, an ignition rate 48 % lower than the PP profile, a superior hardness and density in 10 and 5 %, respectively. The flexural strength increased 26 %, reaching 53 MPa. These results corroborate the use of the composite material studied for structural, architectural and decorative applications.
