Abstract: In the work proposed, we define reference values for the flexion-extension movement of the neck in healthy young subjects to determine confidence bands to establish an effective diagnosis in the treatment of diseases of the neck area. A group of 10 participants (5 men, 5 women), made a gesture of flexion-extension of the head, consisting of the execution of a neutral phase, followed by a phase of flexion and then an extension phase. We detected the movements of the participants using a system of digital optoelectronic instruments. The movement of the spine was restricted with a self made method. Flexion and extension movements were performed mainly in the sagittal plane. The movement did not present significant differences between men and women. During flexion and extension movement, both sexes moved the head and neck presenting an involuntary movement in the shoulders for the maximum phases of flexion and extension. This movement considered as noise was reflected in the data capture, when analyzed along with other markers located in different points of the patient.
