Resumen: The present work was done in the city of Quito, Ecuador. The mineralogical study and volcanology in the Holocene was found in Ecuador. The theoretical part was selected from previous authors, focused about the eruptive products and how they influenced the lives of the populations settled along the Quito basin. The practical information was compiled in 27 archaeological sections that whose volcanic ashes were submitted to petrographic studies. Along the Quito basin, several ash layers of different eruptions have been found, in some are the provenance and ages are identified, but others don’t have this information. For this investigation, the volcanoes with activity during the Holocene were used for this project, where their eruptions were between VEI 4-6, they are cited: Quilotoa (800 y BP), Cotopaxi (4500 y BP), Atacazo-Ninahuilca volcanic complex (2300 and 2600 y BP), Pichincha Volcanic Complex (290, 1000 and 3300 y BP), Pululahua volcanic complex (2400 to BP) and Cuicocha volcano (2900 and 3100 y BP). These volcanic edifices are located in the Occidental and Real Cordillera and the ash samples of the project and the parent ashes coming from these, were determined based on tefrostratigraphic correlation. The ashes of the study were taken along a S-N section of the "Metro de Quito" Project over a distance of 14.5 km. The petrography and main characteristics were analyzed, thus characterizing them. These analyzes were made by means of the binocular microscope. An analysis of the pumice identified the evidence, parameters such as the presence and properties of the minerals, the physical characteristics of the pumice and the types of glasses, factors that were taken into consideration. A total of 9 ashes collected from the proximity of the possible parents volcanoes and were observed under the binocular, following the same procedures of analisys as the ashes collected in the Metro project were subjected. Finally, correlating the ashes shows that, there are 9 samples resulting from the eruption of Quilotoa. Five that; possibly belong to Guagua Pichincha (290 – 3300 y BP) by 3 samples that pertain to Pululahua (2400 y BP) and one who precedence is Cuicocha (3100 y BP). Of the youngest Ninahuilca eruptions 3 samples were obtained and finally, Cotopaxi presents 4 ashes of the rhyolitic erupction of (4500 y BP). One ash of unknown origin. With this information you have an idea of the extent of the volcanoes in each erupction.
