Abstract: In this project, a mechanism to automate the GMAW welding is developed. This is for an oxyfuel equipment, from the Welding Laboratory of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. This work begins with the collection of information of existing equipment and systems that can be used in the design of the mechanism, starting from the point of view of the Development of the function of quality that the concurrent design posses and requirements and needs of the Laboratory. Using tools of modular selection criteria, the most suitable alternative for the mechanical and electronic elements of each system is determined. For this alternative the design of the mechanical componets is conducted and the materials that make up the mechanism are selected. In addition, the construction processes are detailed and a cost analysis is also carried out. Following the construction, the assembly of the mechanism is performed. Tests are conducted to assess the functionality of the mechanism. This is achieved by making variations of weld seam widths in plates of different thicknesses with different welding parameters, for a specimen with butt joint in 3G upward position.
