Abstract: This work is a study to analyze the efficiency of a public terrestrial urban transport network, from the validation of the current conditions of the routes and the analysis of the available critical variables that influence the operation. Established this context, the use of a software that analyzes the efficiency of the routes and provides a framework of analysis of the variables to optimize is posed. Selects the route with greater inefficiency and routes that are in the vicinity to the new stops of the Metro of Quito in the downtown to generate new routes based on criteria of accessibility of stops and optimization of shortest path. After generating the new routes through specialized free software, the efficiency of the set of routes is again evaluated to compare with the initial scenario. It should be noted that due to the transversal configuration and the restricted pathway options in the historical center, the shortest path optimization is very limited and usually the algorithm produced similar results for different routes, on the other hand, at the end of the routes, it is possible to generate routes optimized by the availability of roads.
