Abstract: In the Andean region of Ecuador there are a variety of construction systems where different materials are used and have different thermal behavior affecting the indoor environment generating more or less discomfort. The thermal behavior has not been widely studied in these construction systems and needs to be evaluated. In the present work, the most common construction systems were selected to evaluate their thermal behavior and their comfort. Three construction systems were defined, classifying them as type A (block walls and concrete roof), B (block walls and zinc roof) and C (adobe walls and tile roof with ceiling). These homes were located in the parish of Cutuglagua in the canton Mejía. Information was collected to make the model and certain areas were monitored. This in order to calibrate the model through an iterative manual process. They were evaluated and a parametric analysis was carried out where the percentage of glazing, the thermal mass (thickness of walls) and the thickness of the insulation were varied. The results of the parametric analysis show that housing type A offers greater comfort with its insulated walls, followed by type C with 50% of wwr and lastly it has type B with the roof insulated. Based on the parametric analysis and heat flows, recommendations are given that could improve the thermal comfort of the monitored homes.
