Abstract: Higher Education in Ecuador presides over an internal regulation of each university. Class attendance in universities is not mandatory, however, the Consejo de Educacion Superior (CES) establishes that attendance is a mandatory requirement for the university community to take a recovery exam. Under this context, the Escuela Politecnica Nacional in its Internal Regulations establishes that the student must attends classrooms on a regular basis to access a recovery exam. The methods of student attendance control employed by most teachers are manual, therefore, they can be prone to errors. On the other hand, technology is moving rapidly, so how to respond to this problem and with the help of technology is the development of a mobile application for registering student attendance with the use of QR codes and Cloud Computing. The prototype has aims to streamline the process of student attendance control, so that the student automatically registers class attendance by scanning the QR code that will be generated by the teacher. In addition, having Cloud will help both teachers and students to access attendance reports. It should be noted that the primary requirement for the application management is to have an adequate Internet connection.
