Abstract: This project presents the MATLAB simulation of an OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access) system that evaluates the improvement of the capacity offered by the GWF (geometric water-filling) algorithm, obtaining an average improvement of up to 10.40% in a range of 8 to 16 dB using 64-QAM modulation, for three different subcarrier allocation methods. The simulation works with 2 or 4 users, based on the physical layer of the 802.11n standard. As a result of the simulation, capacity curves versus SNR are obtained, as well as tables that specify the improvement in capacity obtained with the GWF algorithm. Chapter 1 defines the concepts of an OFDMA system, such as OFDM technology, OFDMA transmitter and receiver, subcarrier allocation methods and wireless transmission. We also describe the operation of the GWF algorithm that is implemented for the optimization of subcarrier power allocation. Chapter 2 describes the MATLAB implementation of each part of the OFDMA system described in Chapter 1, including the implementation of the total and per-user capacity calculation of the OFDMA system. Chapter 3 shows and analyzes the graphs of the total and per-user capacity that are obtained with and without the use of the GWF algorithm for each method of subcarrier allocation, as well as tables that reflect the percentage improvement in capacity. Finally, chapter 4 shows the conclusions and recommendations of the development and results obteined from this work.
