Resumen: The San Miguel Formation forms part of the stratigraphy of the volcano-sedimentary fill of the Guayllabamba basin in the Interandean depression, presenting the greatest evidence of deformation observed in that area, which allowed restructuring the tectono-stratigraphic evolution of the basin. The formation is constituted by thick to fine sediments of lacustrine environment with great volcanic contribution. In this work the stratigraphic, sedimentological and tectonic analysis was performed, which allowed us to determine 3 lithological units and 3 tectonic systems. The first unit (Unit A) corresponds to deltaic facies consisting of thick sandstones and conglomerates. Unit B corresponds to slope facies presenting collations between sills, sands, volcanic tuffs and debris flow. Finally, Unit C corresponds to deep lacustrine facies, presenting silty, clays sediments, varveds diatomites, and alternating sands of turbidic sequences. The related analysis in the tectonic context shows a first event "SF1" corresponding to an extensive environment in the NW-SE direction present throughout the early Pleistocene, causing the opening and deposition of unit "A" and "B", in which they were formed sliding planes through which sedimentary deformations occurred at slump-like chaotic events. However, this system ceases to operate during the deposit of unit "C" and is subsequently reactivated during the beginning of the middle Pleistocene. The second event includes a “SF2” compressive system with a predominantly NE-SW orientation prior to the middle Pleistocene, affecting sediments of the unit “C” in a longer period, in this process it is possible to demonstrate sinsedimentary deformations and folding. The third and final system "SF3" is associated with a pull apart NW-SE extension with block descent in dominoes, generated by a strike slip system with a NE-SW direction which dominates from late Pleistocene to the present, presenting sinsedimentary deformations (chaotic events and slumps in the upper formations) and generating the current topography.
