Zusammenfassung: The present study focuses on studying the surface integrity of AISI 420 martensitic stainless steel, when tangential grinding parameters are varied. The experimental process was performed in a tangential grinding machine, with a constant cutting speed and a feed rate, with the variation of the lamination direction of material, depth of cut and grinding wheel grain size, which is: fine, middle and coarse grinding wheel. A topographic profile is generated which, by means of a roughness test the quality of the grinding surface is determined; a metallographic analysis determines the deformations in the subsurface of the material and a microhardness test shows an increase in the plastic deformation resistance of steel. Furthermore, an accelerated corrosion test was performed on the grinding surface, to determine mass loss due to corrosion, where pitting corrosion is evident. An increase in roughness is recorded in samples exposed to corrosion when the roughness test is performed again. The study shows that the surface finish obtained with the different grinding wheel influences the surface integrity of AISI 420 steel, directly affecting its mechanical properties. Better surface quality is getting when the grinding process is with a fine grinding wheel A60 NVS and depth of cut 0,005 mm.
