El efecto de la innovación sobre la productividad: evidencia para las empresas ecuatorianas 2009-2014

Abstract

This research paper studies the effect of innovation activities on labor productivity of Ecuadorian firms, differentiating the types of innovation. Using the information at the firm level of the science, technology and innovation survey for 2011 and 2014, an endogenous switching model is used. This methodology allows to control the endogeneity and the problem of selection bias. The most important finding is that there are positive and statistically significant effects of different types of innovation on labor productivity, that is, not only the firms that really innovated would be less productive if they did not innovate; but also, the Non-innovators firms could be more productive if they innovate.
