Abstract: The expansion of the agricultural frontier and climate change have reduced wetlands, being South America the second region with the greatest loss of these ecosystems. The high Andean wetlands constitute a fundamental component for the water supply. In this context, the Quito Water Protection Fund (FONAG) has implemented several restoration measures in disturbed high Andean wetlands. However, a methodology is necessary for the continuous evaluation of the measures. Therefore, this project proposes a monitoring methodology for high Andean wetlands through multispectral images taken from a drone. The Pugllohuma wetland, belonging to FONAG, was selected as a pilot area. The methodology is based on the analysis of spectral indices of vegetation and water together with topographic maps and field data. Concluding that, NDVI and GCI indices define with greater accuracy the vegetation state. Whereas, the water bodies were assessed from three spectral indices established in the study and the NDWI index; being the proposed index of [(Blue - RedEdge)/ (Blue + RedEdge)] which presents better results. In addition, a water saturation zone was established based on the water table, topographic maps, and water spectral indices.
