Preferencias por redistribución después del auge redistributivo en América Latina

Abstract

What are the motivations that drive Latin Americans to demand redistribution? The literature point out that individuals, beyond the monetary aspect, configure their preferences taking into account characteristics at micro-level, but also factors at macro-level. Answering that question provides a clearer vision for the design and implementation of social policies to bridge the gap between rich and poor, and also at understanding the social discontent reflected in the streets, when citizens' preferences are not included in the agendas of political decision-makers. This document collects information from 17 Latin

American countries, from different data sources, in order to estimate a multilevel logistic model that analyzes both individual and aggregate characteristics in the support for redistribution between 2015 and 2018. The results show that demand for redistribution differ between the latinamerican countries. Also, in general, the most unequal societies, in terms of income, do not demand greater social justice.
