Zusammenfassung: The objective of this document is to characterize the indirect furnace welding of ASTM A572 steel, where this steel was subjected to a CNC surface milling process in the form of channels to analyze and compare whether the welding process was much more efficient than the one carried out in another study using low carbon steel and without a previous machining process. For which, after machining the base metal plates, filler metal was placed in each of the machined channels, then, a clamping matrix was used so that the base metal-filler metal assembly doesn’t separate, then, more filler material was placed at one end of the joint and flux was added to help in the process of capillarity and protection. Once the whole assembly was ready, it was introduced to the muffle furnace according to the temperature specified in this document, the appropriate time was waited and the furnace was turned off to open its door and wait for the welded joint to cool down to be able to manipulate it. Then, the specimens requested by the standard for this process were made in order to perform the respective analysis. The analysis was based on laboratory tests such as hardness, peeling and metallography. The results obtained in the research showed that when performing a surface machining it is required to use a higher percentage of filler material, however, this was not enough for the results to be better than an unmachined plate, since it was observed that other factors are required that influence in a great way to obtain good results, such as, the correct fastening of the plates to be joined, the angle of inclination at which the plates are placed inside the furnace, and the time that the assembly must remain at brazing temperature, if all these factors are not correctly controlled, the results won’t be favorable even if there are more contact areas thanks to the machining.
