Abrasive waterjet cutting technology at relatively low pressure was studied in this document. This study will contribute to the strengthening of the Ecuadorian industry by presenting an alternative for cutting thin aluminum sheets. Firstly, a study of the state of the art of this technology was carried out which allowed the assembly of an abrasive water jet cutting system. Then, cutting samples were obtained by varying the abrasive flow rate and the transverse cutting speed using said system. These samples were then tested with a microscope and a roughness meter and the resulting cut characteristics such as surface characteristics: roughness and drag, as well as geometric characteristics: taper angle, were determined. Subsequently, these results were associated with their total cost to propose an optimal cutting point or to give the reader the option to define the cutting parameters according to their application. A nomogram was made to study the characteristics of the cut in which it was found that as the transverse cutting speed is increased, surface roughness decreases and with an increase in the abrasive flow rate surface roughness increases.es_ES
