El matrimonio como camino a la felicidad.

Abstract

Subjective well-being is the academic name given to what is commonly known as happiness. The central concern of subjective well-being is determining how and why people perceive or experience their lives in a positive way. One of the most analyzed factors is marital status, observing the recurring result that married people are happier. Individual factors, such as marital status, could influence people’s subjective well-being. This article analyzes the influence of the different current civil status in Ecuador on the probability that a head of household is happy. To do this, probit models are estimated using data from the National Survey of Employment, Unemployment and Underemployment ENEMDU (2014-2015). The results suggest that heads of households who are married are more likely to feel satisfied and happy with their marital status and, in general, with their life.
