Abstract

vulnerability of soils where the construction of major highways connecting the different cities of the Ecuadorian Austro is planned. The evaluations are made on 12 borings made using the SPT test and 5 using the CPTu test. The data come from the study carried out by the Ministry of Transport and Public Works (MTOP) for the Cuenca South Access. The FS to the liquefaction calculated in this work is done through the methods of Boulanger & Idriss (2008) and Youd (2001) in order to evaluate the differences that mark the respective procedures. As the appreciations and equations are different, they make it possible to propose the method with the most accurate results and thus to trace the methodology that best suits the problem in order to use the most effective one available. The same differentiation procedure is carried out for the SPT and CPTu tests, taking into account the shortcomings of each one depending on the stratum to be evaluated. The final part of this analysis is complemented only with the boreholes that are susceptible to liquefaction (FS<1), the tests that meet this condition are 5 in this study. This time an assessment is made to the behavior of the confinement in the soil through the implementation of embankments for heights of 3, 6 9 and 12 meters. The objective of this idealization is to confirm if there is really an improvement in the soil when it supports an extra mass (structure) that increases the pressure on the ground.
