These changes are inherent to the microstructure of the material and also dependent on the test sites. Plastic materials are often used as roofing or similar elements in our country. Pending completion of this work, no studies have been performed in-situ to realize the level of deterioration of these materials in our country. In this paper, we studied the degradation of polycarbonate in three areas of the Metropolitan District of Quito, through the techniques of Infrared Attenuated Total Reflection, calorimetry and optical microscope observations. Exposure to the elements have been following the case of the ASTM standards. It has also the artificial degradation in a xenon chamber, the simulation of environmental testing is appropriate, particularly in the modification of the signals of the carbonyl groups. Until the time, it appears that the station is located in the Colegio San Gabriel in which there have been major changes. This can be attributed to the presence of air pollution levels in the area. The tests continue and have even extended to the city of Esmeraldas, in which air pollution levels are much higher than those recorded in the city Quito
