Resumen: The removal of methomyl was evaluated, using as an adsorbent clay bentonite from the Ecuadorian coastl region. The clay was purified and modified by: thermal activation (A-AT) at 200 ° C for two hours; acid activation (A-AA) with 3N sulfuric acid, for one hour at room temperature; and, saline activation (A-AS) with 1.5 of the CIC of the clay with hexadecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide for 12 hours. The removal was carried out with the different samples of clays in three ranges of particles and three operating temperatures (20, 30 and 40 ° C) by placing 0.5 g of clay with 50 mL of synthetic methomyl wastewater. Clays were characterized by DR-X, FTIR and BET. Pesticide removal was quantified using UPLC-MS / MS and the results obtained were analyzed (ANOVA) for a completely randomized design in divided plot and 2 repetitions with general and mixed linear models. The interaction temperature × diameter × clay had a significant effect on the percentage of pesticide removal. The highest removal efficiency obtained was 76% with A-AT (d1 = 106-150 µm) at a temperature of 40 ° C, followed by 67% with A-AT (d3 = less than 75 µm) at temperatures of 30 and 40 ° C.
