| Abstract: | In this study analyzes the impact of effort and social inheritance variables on income inequality in Ecuador. In particular, the direct and indirect effect of social inheritance variables on wage income is investigated. Social inheritance refers to the conditions that surround or affect the individual at birth. Effort variables are characterized as the qualities, skills and decisions that, by themselves - not by inheritance - the individual makes to increase their labor productivity and improve their income. For this study, the Living Conditions Survey (LCS) 2013-2014, conducted by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC), was used. Multiple regression models and logit models are estimated. The results suggest that social inheritance variables have a double participation in the determination of individuals íncome; they directly affect wages and indirectly through their influence on effort variables. |
| Description: | En el presente estudio se analiza el impacto de las variables de esfuerzo y herencia social sobre la desigualdad de ingresos en el Ecuador. En particular, se investiga el efecto directo e indirecto de las variables de herencia social sobre el ingreso salarial. La herencia social se refiere a las condiciones que rodean o afectan al individuo al nacer. Las variables de esfuerzo se caracterizan por ser las cualidades, habilidades y decisiones que, por sí mismo-no por herencia, toma el individuo para incrementar su productividad laboral y mejorar sus ingresos. Para este estudio se utilizó la Encuesta de Condiciones de Vida (ECV) 2013-2014, misma que es realizada por el Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Censos (INEC). Se estiman modelos de regresión múltiple y modelos logit. Los resultados sugieren que las variables de herencia social tienen una doble participación en la determinación de los ingresos de los individuos; afectan directamente al salario e indirectamente a través de su influencia en las variables de esfuerzo. |
