Zusammenfassung: Considering the availability of free hardware (Arduino cards) and free software (Processing) in the local market and the possibility of using these in different projects, a data acquisition system DAQ was designed. This system was implemented in a Soiltest compression testing machine and the information flow generated in a hydraulic power unit was automated. The DAQ receives analog signals of pressure and temperature using a transducer and a thermistor; it consists of sensors, a USB interface, an Arduino card one and connecting cables. The collected data are displayed in an easy-to-use graphical interface. To evaluate the data acquisition operation, tests were conducted on several materials. The resulting errors of the applied force do not exceed 1%, off the maximum scale to be measured of 52 000 lbf. It was also confirmed that there are no signals losses of pressure and temperature in the data acquisition system. The chart was compared in real time from the text file that shows the values of pressure and temperature, with a file plotted in Excel and it was noted that they are the same. However better graphics can be generated using Excel. In this software different plot types can be chosen, titles can be placed, and so on. Finally, it can be concluded that the testing machines existing on the market are much more expensive than the readjustment of the repowered machine. The costs of materials, equipment, hardware, software, tools, etc. that were used to put together the compression testing machine and implement the data acquisition system are lower compared to those existing in the market.
