Alternativas para el manejo de excretas de la comunidad San Rafael, Parroquia Checa.

Abstract

The purpose of this curricular integration project was to develop preliminary studies for the proposal of excreta management alternatives with a focus on the soil component, within the rural community of San Rafael in the Parish of Checa, located in the northeast of the City of Quito. The studies were mainly four: Descriptive Study, Socioeconomic Study, Technical Study and Environmental Study. For the development of the Descriptive Study, we began with the determination of the basic information of the study area such as its location, climate, topography, hydrography, population, among others, through the collection of bibliographic and field data. Likewise, for the Socioeconomic Study, with the application of 17 surveys, the socioeconomic level of the inhabitants of the Community was determined. In the Technical Study, 3 laboratory trials of the soil component were carried out: SUCS Classification Test to determine the type of soil, Triaxial UU Test to determine stability and Permeability Test, to determine the behavior of the soil with the storage of human excreta in this sector. For the Environmental Study, it was proposed to identify and evaluate the environmental impacts generated by the current excreta management system in the San Rafael Community through field research, surveys and the use of the Leopold Matrix. The information gathered in this document will help the inhabitants of the San Rafael Community to choose excreta management alternatives that are better adapted to their physical, environmental, technical and socioeconomic conditions.
