Abstract: This work includes the transmission of energy in both alternating current (HEV – AC) and direct current (HVDC) for the electrical interconnection between Ecuador and Peru at 500 kV. Involving a preliminary environmental analysis for the different route alternatives through which the transmission line can cross, where the right-of-way (ROW) is different from the operation in AC or DC. In addition, it includes the calculation of line parameters for the single and double circuit with horizontal and vertical arrangement, respectively for the alternative AC, while in DC, it is considered a monopolar link to transmit energy. A mechanical study of the transmission line is made, using the approximate catenary equation and state equation of the temperature conditions to obtain the arrows that produce and stresses that support different spans which is developed in the MATLAB® software. The values obtained are used to determine the load that the transmission structure must support, with the purpose of estimating the cost per structure for both AC and DC alternatives. Using the EVIEWS® econometric program, an equation is estimated to determine the approximate cost of an AC transmission line considering data from the SNI lines. Using the DIgSILENT PowerFactory® software, the system's response to electrical faults is analyzed, and a comparison is made in both systems. Finally, the financial indexes (IRR, VPN) that determine the viability of the project are established.
