Resumen: For the development of the decision-making matrix in power generation projects in an oil field, it was begin with evaluations of the geology, structures, lithologies and stratigraphy of each of the sands that have been considered in the oil field, next it was estimated the capacity for oil production and therefore gas production. Then, with the PVT analysis of each of of the sands, the gas quality and its properties were verified; with the gas estimate for each year production, the capacity of generation of available energy was evaluated and thus to will know the capacity that this covers of the field requirements throughout its operation time. In the study, three scenarios were considered: the first, the usual scenario where the fuel used is diesel; the second scenario considered the associated gas as fuel and the third scenario analyzes the advantage that exists in the increase of gas production in costs of investment (CAPEX) and operation (OPEX). To analyze operational safety, the Bow Tie methodology was used, in which the main event was defined as the electric shutdown, caused by variations in the supply of gas in an oil field. Finally, a specific analysis of the administrative, legal, financial, environmental, economic and market aspects was included; which will allow to know if the change of the fuel shows economic indexes that generate a profitability sufficient to provide utility to the project
