Abstract

Social skills have an important role in people development. In higher education, these social skills generate interpersonal relationships that help personal and social improvement. The aim of this work was to study the differences of the social skills categories of the Business Engineering students

of the National Polytechnic School. The categories of social skills used in this research are based on the studies of Arnold Goldstein. The methodology used was quantitative, focusing on the values obtained by applying the Goldstein social skills test, a tool with which the information was collected. This test was applied to 136 students of the Business Engineering. The statistical analysis used was descriptive, presenting data in tables and graphs, and inferential, performing ANOVA tests to determine if there are significant differences in the levels of social skills in the different categories, taking gender and semester as independent variables. The results revealed that the students possess a medium-high level of social skills, having a greater deficit in basic and advanced skills, it was evident that due to their academic training the planning skills in which their strengths lie have improved, but not in the other categories.
