Abstract: The objective of this investigation is to develop a three-dimensional numerical modeling with FLOW 3D computer package, based on the experimental model f Khaled Hamad’s Doctoral Thesis, Experimental Turbulence Analysis of Submerged Vanes, in order to compare the results of velocities and pressures between the numerical and experimental model. The investigation evaluated the behavior of the Flow when it interacts with the submerged vane installed in a sand bed and analyzed how the capacity of sediment transport varies when implementing this type of hydraulic structures. To obtain the calibrated model, a sensitivity analysis was carried out, the calibration defined the mesh sizes, computational cost, simulation time and the turbulence model. Twenty-three tests were performed until the desired results were obtained and they were as like the experimental model. Turbulence analysis was performed with the calibrated model velocities, Reynolds shear, turbulent kinetic energy and its dissipation rate, turbulent intensities and Kolmogorov scales were calculated. A comparison was also made between results obtained from the experimental model and the numerical model. From the comparison of the results between the numerical and experimental model, the percentage of difference and error was determined, validating the values of the numerical model. Once the model was calibrated, another test was carried out to analyze the bed sand topography and two additional tests varying the position angle of the submerged vane to optimize the model.
